Build the battlefield
Put your four-card Capital Kit face-up: the horizontal Capital card, 1 Alpha Nekthery and 2 starting Nektheries. Place the three Nektheries below the horizontal Capital and use the area above the Capital Kit as your Garrison. Place your Deck somewhere easy to reach and visible to all players. Keep a clear, face-up Discard Pile next to it, on either side, also easy to reach and visible to everyone.
Shuffle your Deck, draw the Starting Hand Size printed on your Capital, and set a D20 to your Capital's starting HP. Each player rolls a D20. Highest result goes first. Reroll ties.

DECKProduce Nekthar
Nekthar pays for cards, abilities and attacks. Exhaust a Ready Nekthery by turning it 90° to the left to produce the type and amount printed on it. Each Nekthar symbol is 1 Nekthar of that type. A Generic symbol can be paid with any type.
Try it: tap the Nekthery to exhaust it. Tap again to ready it.
Produced Nekthar stays available for the rest of that turn. Anything you do not spend is lost during the End of Turn Step.
Your turn has seven steps
Select a step to see what matters most during your first game.
Start of Turn Step
Resolve effects that trigger at the start or beginning of your turn before moving on.
Play Kravers to your Garrison
Kravers are the cards that occupy your Garrison and attack. Pay the Cost to Play, then place the Kraver Ready in the rightmost position of your Garrison. Follow its Soma and Ethos text. Your Capital's Garrison value limits normal occupancy.
Read the card: use the numbered guide to identify the fields you will check during play.

Know the card types
Select a card to see the role it plays. You do not need to memorize every timing rule before your first game.
Action
Play it during a legal Play Phase. After any responses, resolve it, then put it in your Discard Pile.
That is enough to start playing.
Keep the First Game Guide beside you for the stuff you are likely to need during a match. Open the Comprehensive Rules when you need exact timing or some weird edge case.
